The Telugu film industry saw a flurry of big-ticket flicks and mid-range films in the first half of 2019. A few heavily hyped projects bombed at the box office while a few small films turned out to surprise hits.

The Nandamuri Balakrishna starrer released amidst great buzz, thanks to the fact that it is a biopic of Sr NTR. However, the film had a poor run at the box office.
Vinaya Vidheya Rama
Ram Charan did not get the best of starts to 2019 as his action entertainer Vinaya Vidheya Rama turned out to be a dud by all means.
The second biggest hit of the year after Maharshi made the most out of the Sankranthi season. Some tummy-tickling comedy between Varun Tej and Venkatesh worked wonders for this film.
Akkineni Akhil disappointed once again with Mr Majnu, which opened to mixed reviews but failed to carry the momentum at the ticket counters.
This film is a biopic of YS Rajasekhar Reddy. It got fairly decent reviews and managed to put up an okayish show at the box office.
The Rahul Ramakrishna and Priyadarshi starrer went unrecognized, owing to its horrendous content and lack of proper storyline.
The second instalment of NTR franchise, Mahanayakudu failed to match the expectations and fell flat on the commercial front.
Nandamuri Kalyan Ram scored good marks with this suspense thriller that was received well by a section of the audience.
This film banked heavily on the chemistry between real-life couple Samantha and Naga Chaitanya. It had a very good run at the box office.
Sai Dharam Tej breathed a sigh of relief after Chitralahari put an end to his flop streak. The inspirational flick was a decent hit.
Termed as a masterpiece by a section of the audience, Jersey was appreciated for its enticing storyline and Nani’s performance.
None other than superstar Mahesh Babu scored the biggest hit of the year. Maharshi was benefited mainly by Mahesh’s crowd-pulling capabilities amongst families.
Bellamkonda Srinivas paired up with Kajal for the second time after Kavacham, but the end result was not much different. The film got a poor response.
Rural drama Falaknuma Das starring Vishwak Sen and also directed by him had a very good run in Nizam region.
Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya
This is one of the surprise hits of the year. The comedy suspense thriller registered very good numbers in the overseas and domestic market alike.
This film is a biopic of Weaver Mallesham who had a remarkable journey. Priyadarshi earned a lot of applauds for his performance in the film.
The comedy-drama banked heavily on its quirky narrative, and the comedy quotient worked really well.
The Prasanth Varma directional was rich in the technical front, but it was declared as a dud on the box office front.
