Karthi scored two consecutive hits with Khakee and Chinnababu. His latest flick Dev is having a parallel release in the Telugu states. Let’s check whether it has what it takes to impress the audience.
Karthi is an adventure loving guy who is forced to meet Rakul. She is a rich individual who has very little time for love and relationships. But things change slowly, and the couple develops feelings for each other.
However, their love life hits a rough patch after small differences come their way. The rest of the story reveals how they get back together.
Karthi is good in the role of a fun loving guy. He keeps things simple and never goes overboard. His settled performance adds more depth to the film.
Rakul looks pretty on the screen. She is very slim now, and her new look will be liked by her fans and followers. Her chemistry with Karthi works out fine.
A majority of the story runs on the lead cast, so there is no scope for other actors. The supporting actors play their parts.
The director Rajath Ravi picked a sensible story that needs a great deal of detailing and a pacy narrative. But Dev lacks both. The film is okayish in parts, but things don’t get going till late in the second half.
The visuals are super cool though. All thanks to the cinematographer, R Velraj. His work behind the lens is very impressive.
Music by Harris Jayaraj is on point, and his background score is good as well. Editing could have been better. Production values are really good.
Dev has very few things going it’s way. The story needed better treatment, and so did the screenplay. The film will end up as unimpressive celluloid this weekend.
